Why the Film?

Or in other words … What has an e-learning company got to do with producing an interactive feature movie?

Well, we decided to make a movie because:

  • anyone would rather watch an interesting movie than sweat over a coursebook,
  • learning should be fun,
  • “educational” films we have seen so far are notoriously boring. Remember those wooden dialogues and dull characters placed against a static background? Alas, we have done a couple of them too, here at SuperMemo,
  • language learning should be all about natural immersion.

Why do we want to make the film interactive?

  • Because interaction keeps players attentive, empowers them to make decisions and promotes natural rehearsals, which are crucial for effective memorizing,
  • Because back in 2010 we were totally blown away by the Bank Run short interactive movie (http://www.bankrungame.com) and would not settle for producing anything less engaging when it comes to our educational films.

Why is this project so exciting?

  • Because movie scripts, auditions, props and professional film production are a new world to us.
  • Because the structure of our film needs to be cleverly synchronised with its educational content.
  • Because it will be an ambitious, innovative merger of two elements: an action-packed story and linguistic material, including word lists, grammar and communication skills, which will help the users progress from the basic to proficiency level.
