The auditions for Olive Green started on 29 July 2013 and took 6 days. The response to the online ads posted by our producer (e.g. here) was immense, with almost 2,500 actors willing to play in the film. The casting crew had shortlisted 400 candidates who were later invited to the auditions.

On 27 August, the final interviews took place. We spoke to nearly 50 candidates on that day. After subsequent (quite heated) talks with the actors’ agents, we finally chose 33 actors to star in our film.

The audition tasks included acting out a scene from the script or improvising. There were many judging criteria, for instance, acting skills, good responsiveness and improvisation skills. Also important were the appearance, that “special thing” that made the actors a perfect match with their characters, professional preparation for the role, experience, and physical agility (in the case of the actors who would be involved in fight scenes).

To that list we added a clear voice and proper accent, as these two will be very important for the target audience of our product.
